Hello there!

We are Paul and Jannah, a husband and wife duo from Regional Victoria, and our story begins with a cubby house. Who could have known that our little summer holiday project would ignite our passion for design and woodworking?

We began our married life with Paul working as an Occupational Therapist and Jannah in the classroom teaching music. With “office” based jobs we never dreamed of the dramatic life change that was ahead of us. Firstly, this was with the birth of our first child (soon to be followed by three more) and we embraced all the new adventures that parenthood entails. Initially, we set out to build a simple cubby house for our children, however our ideas began developing and before we knew it we had built a gorgeous little cottage that now adorns our backyard. It was during this time that we realised how much we love working together as a team in the designing and handcrafting process. Soon after, we were making furniture for friends and family who in turn encouraged us to start our own business...and so the Jemmervale Designs journey began.

Our name, Jemmervale Designs was inspired by the name of Jannah’s families farm. She grew up in Regional Victoria, Australia and knows first hand that quality and creativity are not limited to city centres alone. We are excited to be running a boutique furniture and decor business where we can support our local region and promote high quality Australian business at home and abroad.

6 years in, we have developed our own e-commerce site, successfully run an Etsy store, are a stockist on many online stores such as The Block Shop and we have sent our beautiful products all over Australia and overseas. We have also had our furniture feature in the last four series of Channel Nine’s The Block, see our Behind the Scenes Articles for more information. In 2022 we were also awarded an Australia Post’s National Hero award. We had no idea how much we were going to love this journey. And we love the whole process. From brain-storming, designing and creating, to milling, cutting and endless hours of hand sanding, through to packaging and shipping. It is all a joy.

Most of all however, we love making our customers happy. Nothing completes the artisan journey more than feedback from our customers. Knowing we have designed and crafted items that have become loved pieces in your homes, gives us great joy. We hope you will find something you love here that we can make for you...or get in touch with us for a custom design.

The Jemmervale Designs Workshop

Jemmervale Designs Modern Timber Furniture Workshop

The Powerhouse; the Jemmervale Designs workshop is part of the historical site of the Radio Australia WWII transmission complex.

Powerhouse building completed in 1944. The site was chosen in 1941 after the British and Australian governments consulted, in part because of the flat landscape and soil conductivity.

Just two hours north of Melbourne you will find our workshop on the outskirts of Shepparton. It is a beautiful heritage building, built during WWII as part of a Radio Australia complex. This building once was home to two diesel generators that powered the nearby Radio transmission towers.

The Radio Australia building in Shepparton is a notable landmark in the region, representing a rich history of broadcasting and communication. Situated on expansive grounds, the building's architecture reflects a blend of modern and traditional styles, standing out amidst the surrounding landscape. Originally constructed in the mid-20th century during WWII, the Radio Australia building and the Powerhouse building played a vital role in the history of the Shepparton community.

Now we are excited to be part of the history of this site as we breathe new life into these tired buildings with contemporary timber furniture design. To think that these buildings once built by hand, now house our family owned business where we too use our hands to produce furniture that will hopefully stand the test of time like this historic building.
