1. All About Art
We love to include artwork in our shelf styling. It provides a great option for layering artwork, which is different from arranging them directly on the wall. Art also provides personality and can be a great foundation to build the rest of your styling around. Choose pieces that you love and not just what is on-trend. Some of our favourite artworks in our house are by our children or family friends. We also love supporting other small Australian businesses with our art choices. We recommend Ivory Ink Studio and Georgina Wills Art for beautiful hand illustrated prints that are local regional-Victorian artists that we love!
2. Colour Co-Ordination
This is a great example of taking the colour from the leather strap and incorporating it into the styling on the shelf! Our offerings of natural, brown and black provide lots of possibilities for colour-coordinating your shelf to the styling.

3. Go Green
Our all time favourite styling piece for a shelf has to be plants! We prefer the real type, but if you don’t have a green thumb then there are some great faux plants out there. They are a great way to add life and evolving character to your shelf. You can see more examples of how to use plants on your shelves here.
4. Getting the height right
Mixing up the heights of your styling pieces is key to making the finished result look balanced. It goes without saying that your taller pieces go at the back and then layer the shorter pieces in front.

5. Overcrowding Oversight
The old adage “less is more” applies here. If your shelf is purely for practical storage then go ahead and fill it with all the things you need. But if your styling is not working, maybe try taking something away instead of adding. Grouping like objects together can also help the shelf not feel so overcrowded; for example, grouping similar coloured books together, or stacking bowls of the same size can also help the eye not be so overwhelmed.
Now it’s your turn! Have fun and enjoy finding all the right pieces for your shelf. It’s important not to rush and let it evolve over time.
